Get the
Buzz
Until
last week I really missed the wider "so what?" about Social
Networking sites. I used them: "Linked in" with
colleagues, scribbled on peoples' "walls" and micro-blogged as
well as the next man. But beyond joining in with whatever
"buzz" was going on in my own network, I couldn't see what other
"Buzz" was going on anywhere else. I couldn't tell
what "Buzz" was "Buzzier" than the next. After all - for a
businessman and marketer, I want to be able to identify trends and
react to them: not necessarily comment on the fact a friend of mine
has just successfully cooked a tin of beans.
I then met addictomatic.com and had a little moment of
epiphany. Go to addictomatic.com and type in a phrase on a
subject that is important to you (or your business).
Addictomatic aggregates every major social engine's output on that
topic onto a single page for you. You can add or delete
engines (but only currently from a fixed selection) and arrange the
order of the output in any way you like and then bookmark the page
for future access.
Fantastic! At last a way to really see what the Buzz is -
and where it's happening. (As equally as seeing if your "hot" little
idea has no buzz about it at all...)
Cut my Heating Bills!
Did you
know that the average household heating bill has doubled since 2004
(and rose 42% on average just in 2009). Oil prices and
increased carbon taxation are likely to add to this inflationary
trend and defraying the cost of investment into alternative energy
infrastructures (£233 billion by 2020) will add its own sizeable
contribution to our energy bills. Ernst and Young have suggested the
annual inflator to pay for this investment is the equivalent of £540
year-on-year per household for the next 15 years. Have a look
at the site I have set up for Green Energy (Eu) to allow them
to post information specifically to answer the question "how do I cut my
heating bills?"
Sites
of interest this month
I have
been involved with the following sites this
month:
Holiday villas to rent in
Greece

I have
just started on this site (nothing to see yet) but with original
photos of the above sort of quality to work with I am very excited
about the final result. More news in February.
Higha-Efficiency

I have
done a small piece of work with Higha Efficiency this month to help
determine Higha's "phrases that sell". Hopefully
full-blown optimisation for their energy-efficient heaters website
will commence in February. I find this proposition very
exciting, as Higha offers an entirely different set of green heaters
than Green Energy. This keeps the challenge fresh for me as
well as ensuring no conflict of interests.
For
more information about Higha-efficiency's offerings,
see their current flagship: http://www.higha-efficiency.com.
Nearly Heaven

It is
extremely flattering when the owner of a locally renowned and
already successful website asks for web marketing assistance. Last
November's newsletter used the image of getting to first,
second, third etc bases as a similie for web marketing and Nearly
Heaven is a great site that is already "at bats" and now looking to
score a few "Home Runs". For more information, see:
http://www.nearlyheaven.com and
check back!
Legacy Habitat Management

Legacy
Habitat Management provides environmental consultancy, contracting
services and equipment for construction projects. This is
consequently a very interesting proposition whose time is long past
due.
I am
delighted to be helping them to manage their online Sponsored-click
advertising strategy. Have a look for yourselves at the range
of environmental services they offer at http://www.legacy-habitat.co.uk
and http://www.wildlifefencing.co.uk.
Fred's leads

I'm not
sure how much Christmas Fred had judging from the volume of
correspondance! I said in December I hoped he would be able to
convince a client of his lead-generating proposition. It is a
numbers game and he seems to be building a critical mass of
"chances" now. Hopefully the law of averages will shortly take over
and we can really prove his ideas work and help him roll them
out to a wider market. Keep watching!
Green Energy
Readers
may be interested to know Green Energy are launching a range of
Household Energy monitors called the "Eco Eye". These monitors
allow you to see your real-time electricity consumption in terms of
£ Pounds Sterling - not just as a series of digits from a
counter. Eco-Eye estimate an average of 15% savings result just
from seeing the effect on your pocket of (sic) plugging-in the
kettle, leaving the outside light on etc. We will be updating
their site shortly but in the meantime, contact Green Energy
directly for more information.

Domaine Chater
I
conducted a small performance review for Domaine Chater, given the
increasing prominence Google is now giving to site performance in
its 2010 "Caffeine" release. (Perhaps the project codename is not
entirely coincidental). (Or maybe with the arrival of Bing! Google
felt it had to "wake up and smell the coffee!").
Predictably
with a site of this quality there was little to flag to the owners,
Iain and Jacky Chater. I hope D/C has a great web year.
