Welcome Laurie

My first note this month is to welcome Laurie James as part-time relief valve for my workload in Briquesetclics!  My client caseload has been growing steadily since I opened Briquesetclics on the brink of recession in late 2008. However things by February / March this year had got to a point that I really needed to get more help (see "Sites of interest this month" to see why).  Those who have received "on hold" messages in March, thanks for your patience!

Laurie is fluent in Java, XHTML/CSS and some PHP for which he has now already helped me out with some recent client requirements and I am also hoping shortly to introduce him to the world of Search engine marketing where the brunt of my workload lies.

Website legal minima

OK, I'm not a lawyer, but as a designer and marketer I am obliged to understand where legal requirements need to be observed in websites and make clients aware of their obligations regarding these. Small businesses and small business designers are not always up to speed with their obligations on the web.  Yet given the amount of rubbish and dodgy practice that exists out there it is a shame that legitimate small companies don't take steps very clearly to show they are legit' - a concern on so many inernauts' minds these days..

My motivation to write this is because:

a) The law exists to protect both the company and its customers and it is worth it for both parties to ensure your website is compliant;

b) The requirements are incredibly "light touch" so long as your company and activities are legitimate.

The following list is for guidance only and does not substitute for obtaining full legal advice specific to your company and trading circumstances.  Basic requirements are: Read more Read More...

Sites of interest this month

I have been involved with the following sites this month:

Prostudio360.com / .fr / .de/ .es

Photo Studio Equipment

Prostudio360 is a photo studio equipment company with sites in the UK, Germany, France and Spain.  They found Briquesetclics completely the way it should be - via the web, in French, using exactly my target keywords as their search criteria.  We are discussing how I might best help their web marketing across all four countries - stating (interestingly for my own future reference) that they felt with web agencies everything disappeared down a black hole and as a client one lost sight of what was going on, who would be doing it etc. More anon.

Green Energy (Eu)

Infrared Heating

We have been involved with Green Energy (Eu) for a year now and as if in celebration, visitor figures hit the "tenfold increase" mark (now just over 2,500 visitors a month) to the figures we found this time last year (less than 250 visitors a month).  Clearly the story is not finished and we look forward to working with them going forward.  March has been spent providing a "syndication" facility to allow people to legally use the site content on their own websites without compromising either copyright or the Uniqueness of the original site which is so critical for ranking well in search results.

Legacy Habitat Management

Legacy Habitat Management

We continue to manage and tune Legacy Habitat's sponsored search campaigns and provide background advice on search marketing in general.   Current focus is to determine the "Return on Investment" of these activities to allow us to etermine next steps. To find out more about their habitat creation and restoration services which includes newt fencing, and their wildlife fencing programmes, just click the hyperlinks above.

Nearly Heaven

Learn to fly in France

I had mentioned back in January that I would be doing some work on the "Nearlyheaven" proposition - a well renowned site in the local and flying communities.  The first phase of the work - to split-out the three competing propositions into three separate sites: Learning to Fly in FranceHoliday Cottages in France and Pedigree Hungarian Vizsla dogs is complete. I hope you'll agree the results are stunning.  At the present time, all visitor stats are holding-up on the main (original) site and are building nicely for the other two propositions - which we will be able to track precisely from now onwards (previously not possible on the old site).  "Off-site" web marketing will ensue in phase II! Watch this space.

HolidayGites.co.uk

Holiday Gites

Holidaygites.co.uk is a directory of Family Holiday gites in France. They have asked Briquesetclics to assist with their back-linking strategy - which means finding relevant, high quality websites to link to holidaygites.co.uk.  I have begun to turn my attention to this work lately and look forward to picking up the pace in April.

Also in the pipeline for April...
