Using Overture/Yahoo To Get Website Visitors

Using Overture/Yahoo To Get Website Visitors

Overture - now re-branded Yahoo following Yahoo’s takeover, was the original inventor of the use of the concept of Pay Per Click (or Pay for Performance or "Sponsored Search"). Overture saw that the internet was fast becoming the easiest and most convenient way to shop, and advertising by the click was going to take-off because of the consumer demand for search results and business demand for targeted advertising.

Winning the click war is the key to getting high ranking on sponsored search results. You need well targeted ads that will attract your specific customers only to your website. You don't want highly generic ads that cost a fortune and don't bring the right people to your site. One 'spot-on' buyer a day is better (and more cost effective) than 100 customers who have wond-up on your site by mistake. Or put another way - better to be at the top of page 1 once a month for your exact market, than on page 50 ten times a day every day!

Yahoo provides a Sponsored Search service that will promote your site to the top of the search rankings when customers input the specific keywords you have chosen for your ad. And Pay Per Click is a proven means of promoting site popularity and Page Rank - just so long as you can tune your campaign enough not to pay through the nose for such popularity! There is a real trick to this and the small upfront expense of seeking help to get started is far outweighed by the savings to your ad campaigns and the btter chance of business take-off you will have! Briquesetclics.fr is one such company that can provide this sort of advice at a very low price.

As more people become aware of your site, you will get a snowballing effect of traffic looking at your pages and products. Rumour has it the search engines also promote you higher up the organic SEO search results if they see you have a PPC campaign as it demonstrates a level of seriousness about your website. But also, good marketing says you have to take every chance to get a visitor to buy something, once they land on your site, even if it is not the item they originally searched and clicked for. You have to make your landing pages appealing and take any opportunity to cross-sell! Even if that is only at the end of the day by controlling how the customer leaves your site (i.e. by providing attractive affiliate links and offers from which you will get a small commission if the web-surfer clicks through on those. All these mechanisms work to snowball your chances of success and you have to take every chance going.

Getting a consistent substantial flow of website visitors is every web company’s goal, whether or not they know it. Website visitors are the life blood of your internet based business but it is amazing how many web site owners actually do nothing to promote their sites either using sponsored search or even the free organic SEO methods. It is as if they believe traffic will just appear over night.

Yahoo/Overture utilizes the same principle as Google’s Adwords. In fact, they are very similar to each other in that they use keyword and keyword phrase searches to determine which ads show according to the criteria input by the internaut. When a person types in any keyword or keyword phrase to search for anything, the search engines return both organic and sponsored search results on each page. The sponsored search ads are those usually in a highlighted box at the very top of the search results, or those in the right hand margin of the search results.

For example, Lets say you run a car parts retail/wholesale site. You choose keywords that prompt or trigger your ads to be shown in the search results when a keyword is searched. When a search engine user types in "Honda Prelude" for example, your ad should show if you have designated that as one of your keywords. But like organic, free Search Engine Optimisation techniques, you HAVE to tune your ads, as much as you would tune your website. The Phrase "Honda Prelude" is very generic and likely to be used by ever Honda dealer across the globe. Sure, you will get this phrase clicked 1000 times a day, which will look very encouraging, but it will be being clicked by everyone across the globe and will consequently also be a very expensive phrase to use - perhaps $20 - $30 a click! So you have to get smart and really think about your market and use just the phrases that will bring the right customers to your doorstep. For sake of example: "2004 Honda Prelude parts Limousin France" may only get clicked once a month, but think about it: this will be by someone who is therefore VERY LIKELY to buy from you, and the click will probably only has cost you $0.10!

So by carefully tuned PPC campaigns, you get the chance to be on the top of the search results for your specific product and market quicker and to a wider audience than just by organic SEO methods alone. Once you get the hang of it, you can experiment with the different methods of paying to see which one works best for you. You may want to consider paying per click; or by the number of Keywords or Keyword phrases your ad uses. Yahoo and Google also offer "Pay Per Action" which means you only pay when the customer performs a certain action on your site, rather than by just clicking onto it. You can also opt, or not, to have your ad show up in both the search engine results, and also within adverts hosted on third party sites (what is sometimes referred to as the "Content Network").

Third party sites support ads that have the same theme or niche as them. With this sort of expanded distribution of your ad, you increase the chances of people seeing your site or product.

With so much competitions in internet business, you really should start considering breaking away from the pack by using advertising. Yahoo/Overture is a great place to start and it doesn't have to cost the earth (indeed if it is, as I have alluded, you are probably doing it wrong). Many have utilized Sponsored Search advertising to build up their web business and have reaped the rewards of this decision. It’s a marketing strategy that will increase your website visitors as well as increase your sales resulting in profit.

It takes money to make money and while there are some promotional SEO methods that are basically low cost or free, using a marketing service such as Yahoo/Overture or Google Adwords will provide results faster and on a larger scale than by purely organic - free - means.
