Giving away free work.

 A race to the bottom.

Briquesetclics performs free reviews of websites to help customers understand whether their websites are "searchable".  We view this as a service to the local market, "brand-awareness" on our part, and obviously a potential source of future client work or referral.

But have you noticed how many service companies are now discounting their major service lines to the point of "giving them away"?  It is entirely understandable, but it's a race to the bottom they can't recover from and they risk taking their clients with them. If content is "King", Service is "Queen".

Much of what we try to get across to clients is about content and how absolutely vital this is to give sites a chance of being found.  Our reasonably strong opinion is that 4 or 5 page websites with pretty pictures and almost no text (esp if now "given away" by the designers, see above article) are pretty well useless for clients, search engines and business.

But if content is "King", service is definitely "Queen".  The companies that are presently racing each other to the bottom are old-style monoline (i.e. offer only one thing) agents that are being out-competed by companies that can put together complementary activities as part of a whole .. Read more...Read More

The aim is to continue this progress and of course to drive really healthy traffic and business to the site.

We have been re-building Xoomhire's Pay Per Click advertising strategy from scratch. Xoom's challenges come from being a new, small entrant in a very large, very competitive global market.  How can a new entrant even compete when the "Obvious words" sell for up to $20 just for a single  click?  Well, we're now down to $0.40 per click and still maintaining traffic volumes.
