Will
sir be having a Rhinoplasty, or a nose job?
It's a
heffalump trap I admit to falling in myself, but a frequent mistake
of websites - amateur and professional - that they are too
"Supply-side". In other words they reflect what the business owner
wants to say... but do they reflect what a customer is looking
for?
Think
about how many website addresses reflect the business name in some
clever way, but not what the website is offering. How many search
engines would understand what a "lacroixspa" was, as opposed to a
"pampering-holiday-france.com" (just for example).
Equally
the contents of websites need to reflect the market needs, not the
owner's expertise. Do you think more people search for a
"Rhinoplasty" or a "Nose job"? Read

Social networking, PET?
Facebook,
Twitter, YouTube were originally created as places for college kids
to hang-out but have gone far beyond that now. 50% of
Facebook's users are over 25; over 55% are women; 51% have an
annual income over $75k; 33% have an income greater than
$100k.
The
obvious "market" these sites represent has been noted by the like of
Dell (claiming an extra $1m from Facebook-generated sales in
2008 and $3m by July 2009) with the like of Ford, Southwest
airlines, IBM all building strong presence now too.
But the
communication style on these forums does not fit well with
traditional corporate communications rules. Indeed the label
"Opinionated and preachy" with which HR departments daub the
blogosphere is exactly the communication style required to become - and
remain - noticed on these sites. The man who had the arrogance
to call himself "Mr Mobile Phone" has 3 - 4 million subscribers to
his blog; held a key position at Microsoft and now at
Apple. But the blog preceded his market
value...
So
what is that objectionable style, PET?

Sites
of interest this month
We are
involved with the following sites this
month:
infrared-heating-redwell

It may
at first appear curious to add a website to a proposition already
promoting infrared heaters (Green Energy). However, we created
this additional very "niche" site for very specific reasons for the
client and together with the blog and existing website, we should
top the 1000 visitors per month for the client. Have a
look at http://www.infrared-heating-redwell.co.uk.
infrared-heating.blogspot

Traffic
levels to this new blog have doubled its first month's levels (just
on 250 a month at present) and we're looking into wider promotion of
it. Why not look at http://infrared-heating.blogspot.com
and look at our latest post on oil prices.
Green
Energy

The
'niche' site above now allows us to develop and deepen the separate
characters of the two websites, as the client has very different
audiences he has to reach. See http://www.greenenergy-eu.com
Domaine
Chater
Optimisation
work continues for this beautiful site: link building will follow
(promise!).
Check
out Award-winning French Duras Wines at http://www.Domainechater.com to see
and purchase their products on line.
Xoom
Hire

Xoom is
seeing a good rally towards the end of the year and we continue to
create and tune web pages for this car hire comparison
website.
See
http://www.xoomhire.com and
consider using them next time you want to find the best car rental
deal.
La
Croix Spa (.fr)

Taking
a bit of a leaf out of the "Green Energy" book, we're remodelling
the French site for LaCroixSpa to be more than just a "Translation
of the english site". Whilst this was as good a starting
point as any, it became clear we sell different things to the
French in a different way from the English market and an
entirely different site was required. It is not live
yet, but will shortly be arriving at http://www.LaCroixSpa.fr.
